Years of continual use since 1619 have had an impact on the Hospital’s building and
contents. George Abbot’s generous endowment has not kept up with the continuous
claims made on it and we need to raise funds to carry out necessary work.
In the last 2 years the Governors have spend over £160,000 on major repairs.
More funds are now needed for the following areas:
| Upper Court |
£147,000 |
| Lower Court |
£240,000 |
| The Chapel |
£9,000 |
| Guesten Hall |
£10,000 |
| Common Hall |
£10,000 |
| Gatehouse & Monmouth Room |
£78,000 |
| Gazebo |
£20,000 |
| Furniture, Clock & Paintings |
£17,000 |
| Access & Security |
£33,000 |
| |
|
| TOTAL |
£564,000 |
Since the Appeal was launched, funds raised have enabled us to complete work on
the Gatehouse, and to carry out some repairs to the Common Hall and Guesten Hall.
We plan to restore the main gates and the summer house during 2006 and to continue
with the considerable progress already made to the accommodation in the Lower Court.
A number of paintings and some unique pieces of furniture have been conserved and
are now displayed in their rightful places within the Hospital.
A range of giving options is available for those who would like to contribute. Corporate
and Personal Gifts or Donations of any size are very welcome.
Please contact Marion Peters, the Appeals Manager, to discuss your donation plans or
for further information on the Heritage Appeal.
