Abbot's Hospital offers a range of opportunities to ensure that as many people as possible enjoy this splendid building.

Just want a Brief View?

Come and look at our world from just inside the Main Gates. Open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. Saturday 9am to 12pm.

Weekday Tours - May to September 2020

These tours are available at 11am from May to September on Thursdays and Fridays.

No need to book, simply turn up and wait outside Abbot's Hospital main entrance for your guide!

Visitors are able to see the COMMON HALL, originally used as a sitting and dining area by the residents and the CHAPEL, with its superb stained glass windows.

Tours last about 45 to 50 minutes.

For 2020 the first Weekly Tour will commence at 11am on Friday 1st May 2020.  Please note, there is no weekly tour on Friday 8th May 2020 due to that date being a Bank Holiday.  The last Weekly Tour in 2020 will be on Friday 25th September.

£5 per person, under 16's free of charge.

Saturday Tours - once a month

We also have a Saturday tour once a month. For 2020 the designated Saturdays for an 11am tour are on Saturday 16th May, Saturday 13th June, Saturday 18th July and Saturday 12th September which is Heritage Day Saturday. There is no Saturday tour in August.

Group Tours

These must be booked in advance but can be arranged Monday to Friday (and, with plenty of notice, sometimes Saturday) at any time during the year. Group Tours can be tailored to particular interests and can offer an opportunity to see areas of the Hospital not available during Weekday Tours or Open Days.

Schools Visits

We are delighted to welcome schools to Abbot's Hospital and have tours suitable for pupils of different ages.

No charge is normally made for educational visits.

Open Days and Special Events

Several times a year we run special events and activities. These often involve special 17th Century guests and current residents. For further information see News/Events.

Heritage Days 2020

The Guildford Heritage Days 2020 will take place on Thursday 10th September, Friday 11th September and Saturday 12th September. Abbot's Hospital will be conducting tours as follows:

Tours (maximum 20 per tour):

  • Thursday 10th September 2020: 11am and 12 noon
  • Friday 11th September 2020: 11am and 12 noon
  • Saturday 12th September 2020: every 15 minutes from 10 am.  Last tour at 1:45pm.  There will be a total of 14 tours with a maximum of 25 persons per tour group.  The final tour will finish at 2pm.
